Waterpower is not creating green electricity it creates Mordor!

Global warming is a fact, and to stop climate change is investing leading politicians and industry on the green clean energy. In this article we intend to discuss hydropower and the negative environmental effects it has on the ocean.
Today, 172 of the world’s largest 292 rivers are regulated by humans. The amount of hydroelectric power is expected to increase by over 20% at the beginning of the next decade.

Hydroelectric plants and dams destroy nature and the natural environment and also destroy your ability to recover from lakes, rivers and oceans around the world. The main reason for hydropower kills species that hydropower settles essential vitamins and diatom to reach the sea.

Here in Sweden we have observed a drastic reduction in wildlife over the last twenty years in the Baltic Sea. The same problem has now been detected in all parts of regulated and dammed streams and rivers throughout the world.

The green energy is a priority for our politicians who support the UN climate report IPCC. We also know that a number of developing countries have poor economy. The banks know that the right hydropower provides good economy and provide a secure supply of electricity.

For example, it has been found that many organisms and species disappeared in our seas. 50% of diatoms has disappeared in Baltic sea and all of the fish species that are dependent on rivers has decreased in size, number and fitness. The reason is that hydropower dams stops the essential vitamins and diatom to reach the sea. The dams allow diatoms can be consumed and fall to the ground.Therefore, it is disturbing to see how the rest of the world are expanding their rivers with renewable ”green” energy.


That silicon concentrations in the Baltic Sea has declined over the period 1970-2001. The study is part of an EU funded project, SIBER, researchers from Denmark, Finland, Latvia, Poland and Sweden have collaborated. One of the project’s overall results are that dissolved silicon in the Baltic Sea has halved during the 1900s. SIBER stands for Silicate and Baltic Sea Ecosystem Response.

Diatoms are a very important and popular food for plankton, which in turn serves as food for
fish. Diatoms play a big role in the worldwide ecosystem of Mother Earth!

Diatoms are divided into more than 200 genera and it is estimated that there are 100,000 different species  The diatoms that do not get eaten sinking fast to the bottom when they die. There, they become food for benthic animals, which in turn are eaten by fish. Dissolved silicon formed by weathering of different rock types. Water and organic acids are essential for weathering.

Reservoirs may be through the unnatural level difference between high and low tide a disturbed ecosystem.  The constant fluctuations in water level allows nutrients are transported away from the productive littoral zone malnutrition. Downstream of the dam, the old-stream to be alternately dry and sometimes have high water – a change in living environment that would be difficult to adapt to all species.

1 Pristine waterways In natural streams the regrowth of animals and plants occurs as strongest above and below the shoreline down to 6 meters deep depending on water visibility.

2 What happens in regulated watercourses inside the ponds The extremely unnatural level difference in regulated watercourses for hydroelectric dams is the natural ecosystem completely eliminated in the former shore zone. The large and unnatural fluctuations in water levels means that the nutrients, plants and animals are eroded and transported away from the beach zone and all living things die. All this nutrient rich material is now at the bottom of these dammed lakes. The water is very poor in nutrients.

3 What happens in the riverbed downstream of dams Stream bed is dry most of the year. When draining the hydroelectric dams, the river gets full of heavily flowing water for short periods. This unnatural change in the living environment has no species been able to adapt to. Riverbeds are now completely eroded, dead and sterile.

The question is why banks continue to expand the world’s rivers with ”green” hydropower when science shows that there are too many negative environmental impacts.

To build hydroelectric in the Amazon or in other developing countries where high biodiversity, there has proved to be disastrous for the environment, the only continuing the banks and industry to build hydropower like the three monkeys who neither see, hear, or listen to the warning signals that indigenous peoples and science.
